Enhanced Circuit-Switched Data (ECSD) is an improvement to GSM networks that introduces EDGE technology on top of High-Speed Circuit-Switched Data (HSCSD) for circuit-switched data transfer. It utilizes new modulation (8-PSK) and adaptive error correction schemes to enhance data rates. ECSD offers five data rates, including 28.8 kbps, 32.0 kbps, and 43.2 kbps in addition to the existing 9.6 kbps and 14.4 kbps. When all 8 time slots are used, the maximum data rate can reach 345.6 kbps.
