DAB+ is an audio codec for Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) based on Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) of MPEG-4. It offers greater efficiency compared to the older MPEG Audio Layer II codec, allowing more radio stations to be transmitted on the same multiplex. DAB+ is scalable, fully compatible with the old standard, and enables current DAB stations to coexist with additional DAB+ stations. New receivers can decode stations using both audio coding options, providing listeners with a wider range of choices.
