EDGE Compact is a specialized adaptation of EDGE GPRS (EGPRS) for D-AMPS (IS-136) networks with narrower 30 kHz radio channels. It achieves high-speed packet-switched data by releasing part of the 30 kHz carrier spectrum to create a standalone packet-switched data network. This network is designed for high-speed data traffic using EGPRS and can operate in just 600 kHz of spectrum, utilizing three carriers in a 1/3 reuse pattern.
