Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi, commonly referred to as Wireless Fidelity, is a widely recognized term associated with wireless Local Area Network (RLAN) systems that adhere to the IEEE 802.11 family of standards.

More formally, “Wi-Fi” is the designation given to products that receive a certificate from the Wi-Fi Alliance after successfully passing their interoperability tests. These tests are crucial as they ensure that wireless LAN products from different manufacturers can function together seamlessly. Products that meet these interoperability standards are permitted to display the Wi-Fi logo, signifying their compatibility with other Wi-Fi certified devices.

Initially, the Wi-Fi certification program focused exclusively on products based on the IEEE 802.11b standard. However, over time, this program has expanded to encompass a broader range of products built on various standards within the IEEE 802.11 family. This expansion reflects the evolving nature of wireless technology and the Wi-Fi Alliance’s commitment to fostering interoperability and user-friendly experiences in wireless networking.
