Ethernet

Ethernet is a standardized network technology facilitating computer communication within a Local Area Network (LAN). Developed in the early 1970s by DEC, Intel, and Xerox under Dr. Robert Metcalf’s leadership, IEEE later standardized it as IEEE 802.3. Ethernet typically involves workstations (commonly PCs) connected to a shared cable system called the Ethernet bus or trunk. A hub can also be used, connecting workstations in a star-like setup. Ethernet originally supported 10 Mbps data transfer, while Fast Ethernet reached 100 Mbps, Gigabit Ethernet achieved 1 Gbps, and the latest version handles 10 Gbps for interconnecting LANs.
