Band IV/V

The UHF Bands IV and V cover broadcasting frequencies from 470 to 582 MHz and 582 to 862 MHz in Europe, extending to 960 MHz in the Americas. These bands primarily facilitate both analog and digital television broadcasts. A specific segment (608-614 MHz) is allocated for radio astronomy in various countries.

Globally, these bands are pivotal for launching digital television broadcasting. In Europe, the digital broadcasting plan for these bands was outlined by the Regional Radio Conference 2006 (RRC-06, Geneva). Post the transition from analog, these bands will adopt a fixed 8 MHz bandwidth channel arrangement for digital television (DVB-T), with Band IV encompassing channels 21-34 and Band V channels 35-69. The planning ensures a fairly distributed and fully coordinated spectrum for each country, based on allotments. These allotments may merge to create national coverage layers, typically offering 6-8 national digital television layers per country. However, the allocation might vary in countries where Bands IV and V also support non-broadcasting services.
