WiMAX

Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, commonly known as WiMAX, is a wireless technology widely recognized for its ability to provide broadband internet connections across long distances. Among its various applications, Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) is the most prominent. Additionally, WiMAX is versatile enough to be used for linking mobile network base stations to the main network, or for connecting wireless LAN hotspots to the internet, a process known as backhaul.

WiMAX is built upon the IEEE 802.16 standard. To ensure that equipment from different manufacturers can work together seamlessly, the WiMAX Forum has developed a series of specifications. Compliance with these specifications is mandatory for any equipment to be branded as WiMAX. This adherence to standardized protocols ensures compatibility and interoperability, making WiMAX a reliable and universal solution for a range of wireless connectivity needs.
