EGPRS

Enhanced GPRS (EGPRS), also known as EDGE Classic, is an enhancement of GSM networks that builds upon General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) for packet-switched data transfer. EGPRS improves data rates by introducing a new modulation scheme (8-PSK) and adaptable error correction methods. It features nine coding schemes, five for 8-PSK and four for GMSK modulation, with data rates per timeslot ranging from 8.8 kbps to 59.2 kbps. When all eight timeslots are used, EGPRS achieves a maximum data rate of 473.6 kbps, enhancing data capabilities within existing GSM network architecture. Link adaptation ensures optimal data transmission quality based on radio link conditions.
