Cell Broadcast is a feature in cellular networks like GSM, UMTS, and CDMA2000 that enables the simultaneous delivery of messages to all mobile phones within a designated area. Unlike SMS, which targets specific phones, Cell Broadcast broadcasts messages to all phones within a defined range, from a single cell to the entire network. It’s used for various purposes, including emergency alerts, local news, weather forecasts, and traffic information. Messages can contain up to 1395 characters divided into 1 to 15 pages. Cell Broadcast offers 65,536 broadcast channels, some of which can be activated by operators for subscription-based services. It’s also known as SMS-CB.
